about

Alternate tunings — so fun, so impractical. But during pandemic times, with the horror of re-tuning excessively in front of an audience receding significantly, Spelling Reform lead singer and songwriter Dan Wisniewski dove in. An experiment in open G led to “Just Like Me,” which takes the Philly band’s stutter-stop indie rock/power pop sound and matures it significantly (and adds three guitar solos in four minutes for good measure). A driving chorus, big synth parts and humongous drums round out a driving tune, the final single before the indie rock’s band’s third LP, “The Real Giving Up,” is released on October 20.

lyrics

We should leave before the panic sets in. And then we can live in each other’s pockets. The gas station attendant was the only one we let in on our little secret.

It’s just like me to break off from the one thing that’s not falling apart. It’s just like me to give up. It’s just like me to wait for something that won’t come about. It was getting hard to hold on.

Is this what it’s like when everything just fits? As if it won’t ever get better than this? What do I believe in? Clearly not what anyone would say is worth it.
